Dr. Troy here, Vancouver chiropractor.
Sinus issues are very common to see in people. It’s very common that patients will have a dry runny nose and they will allergy issues. That is one of the things that I was helped with when I was in high school and all through college. When I started getting regular adjustments my sinus issues cleared up. I had no idea that chiropractic was related to that happening.
What I do know now is that the upper cervical which is the first couple of bones in your neck, innervate the mucous membranes of your sinuses. Also, the lungs and colon are also a part of the eliminating system, so if there is any blockage or restriction of nerve flow in the vertebral misalignment it can affect your ability to eliminate and it will come out your sinuses.
When your body is not able to adapt to pollen and stressors the nerve system has a direct role in that. So if there is a misalignment which can interfere with your autonomic nerve system which weakens you, you are more susceptible to allergy attacks, your immune system is more hypersensitive.
These are things that chiropractic might be able to help you with. We do examinations, sometimes take x-rays to determine if there is misalignment interfering with the nerves to see if chiropractic is right for you.
We do a free consultation, evaluation to determine if there is a misalignment in your spine interfering with the functionality of your body and if it is, we are certain that we will be able to help you.
Call us to schedule a consultation, we will do that at no charge. You can meet us and we can explain how chiropractic can be right for you.

Learn More About Chiropractic Care For Sinus Issues
Millions of people suffer from sinus problems each year. In reality, the cause of sinus infections is unclear. There are many different causes that are linked to sinus trouble.
Even though these types of issues are not life-threatening, they can still be a nuisance to many individuals.
Lots of people use various methods to treat sinusitis, such as antibiotics, prescription medication, and over-the-counter antihistamines. Unfortunately, these medicines only provide temporary relief and they are not a permanent solution to fix them. Those individuals who suffer from sinus trouble know how painful a sinus headache can really be.
What is Sinusitis?
Sinusitis occurs when the tissue surrounding the sinuses becomes inflamed or infected. The sinuses are made up of eight hollow holes in the head; they are located in the cheekbones, forehead, between the eyes, and behind the nasal cavity. Millions of people will suffer from at least one sinus episode each year. The most common sinus problem occurs when fluid builds up in these hollow spaces; this moist environment allows germs to grow in these areas. The fluid that blocks the tissue surrounding the sinuses gets filled with these microbes, which causes a bacterial infection.
How Can a Chiropractor Help Sinus Problems?
A chiropractor may be able to help you overcome your sinus troubles. If you have a cranial bone misalignment, this can be fixed by the doctor performing a nasal specific technique called sinus adjustment. This type of care includes primary symptomatic care which deals with sinus drainage methods, such as cranial and facial bone adjustments or mobilizations as well as lymphatic pump with drainage techniques, which shows you how to self-stretch your sinuses. You can stretch your sinus by pulling outward on the cheeks in different positions around the head. This type of therapy has been shown to be effective if a chiropractor performs it on a patient five times per week over a two week period.
These therapeutic remedies can help relieve nasal blockage, align the nasal pathways, and release built up pressure inside of the head. In turn, this will make the cerebrospinal fluid flow more easily inside of the skull, and restore a person’s natural balance.
Your specialist may recommend supplemental therapy at home as part of your physical rehabilitation. This may include applying a warm or cold compress to the facial regions that are hurting due to sinus problems and massaging these painful areas. These types of therapeutic tools are aimed at removing interference or disturbance from the nervous system, which can assist the body in functioning better.
Signs and Symptoms of Sinus Infections
People may experience a wide range of symptoms when experiencing a sinus infection. The symptoms are similar to cold-like symptoms such as a headache, runny nose, inflammation of the nasal cavity, congestion, watery eyes, pressure around the eyes, facial pain, cough, fever, and sore throat. Some people also experience pain in the forehead, around the nose, in the upper jaw and between the eyes. Furthermore, sinus problems can also mimic allergies. Nevertheless, sinusitis can be acute or chronic depending on the situation. Acute sinusitis is an infection that lasts up to four weeks at a time and is divided up into two distinct categories including severe and non-severe. Acute infections can be recurrent, which happens four or more times per year. Infections that are subacute last from four to twelve weeks. On the other hand, chronic infections may last more than twelve weeks at a time. When a person experiences recurrent bouts of chronic sinusitis, it is also called an acute exacerbation.
Causes of Sinus Trouble
Doctors are not actually sure why people have sinuses, but scholars think they are there to help keep our skull from being too heavy. They are also responsible for the depth and tone of the voice which is why you may sound different when your nasal cavity is congested.
Here is a list of things that can lead to sinus trouble:
- Viruses such as colds
- Allergies
- Polyps
- Pollutants
- Fungi
- Smoke
- Lack of moisture
- Dry air
- Chronic medical conditions
- Toxicity
- Elimination System imbalance
Approximately 10 percent of people today have an extra sinus and this can lead to a very narrow transition space in these regions. Narrowing of these hollow spaces causes fluid to become backed up or blocked on them. Some people may have a deviated nasal septum. This is due to the thin wall of bone and cartilage inside of the nostrils, which separates these two open passages. Since the septum is located in the middle of the nose, it helps to separate the two sides. A deviated septum can occur due to genetics or injury. Furthermore, 80 percent of individuals who experience this problem have a displaced septum on one side of their nose, which makes one nasal passage smaller than the other. This can lead to sinus problems, obstructive breathing, and snoring.
Who Gets Sinusitis?
Sinus problems can affect people of any age, but it frequently occurs in individuals ranging from 18 to 45 years of age. People who have swelling in their nasal mucous membrane, blockage in their drainage ducts, structural abnormalities that causes narrow drainage ducts, polyps inside of the nose, and immune deficiencies are at higher risk for getting a sinus infection. Kids are at risk of developing a sinus infection if they are consistently around allergens, ill people, or smoke. The most common causes of sinus problems is exposure to smoke and bacterial growth inside of the nasal cavity.
Summary
Remember that chiropractors have become a viable alternative to the care of sinus problems. Your sinuses are connected to your nervous system and immune system. The mucous membranes in the sinuses are controlled by the brain and nervous system.
Chiropractic care can offer people many benefits such as the ability to breathe better, have improved memory, and increased energy. By seeking chiropractic care, you may be able to reduce your dependency on medication, help combat sinusitis, and reduce your symptoms all at the same time.
